A personal profile cover must be at least 720 px wide. Facebook doesn't publish fixed pixel sizes for ordinary feed photos, so this checker doesn't invent one.
How cropping works on Facebook
There isn't one perfect cover crop. The same cover is shown as a 16:9 area on computers and a wider 2.4:1 area on phones, both aligned to the left, and the profile picture covers part of the left side. What happens if my image has the wrong size?
Covers smaller than 400 × 150 px can't be used. Other sizes are scaled and cropped to fit each screen, which can cut off text near the edges. Use the Aspect Ratio Calculator to plan a shape.
How to prepare an image for Facebook
Keep important text and logos in the middle of a cover so it survives both crops. Save covers as an sRGB JPG under 100 KB for fast loading, or PNG if they contain a logo or text. Use a square image for your profile picture.

Why does my Facebook cover look different on my phone?

What size should a Facebook profile picture be?
320 × 320 px for best quality. It's cropped to a circle and displays at 176 px on computers and 196 px on phones.
Should I use PNG or JPG on Facebook?
